We are currently recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join a well-established business delivering high-risk engineering and construction projects across the Highlands and Moray area.
Our client specialises in managing complex engineering projects, with a strong focus on health and safety, efficiency and innovation. They have an excellent reputation for delivering projects to high standards, taking a practical and flexible approach to overcoming site challenges while maintaining compliance with industry regulations.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, working closely with site teams and making a real difference to health and safety standards across busy operational environments.
The role would particularly suit someone with a background in processing, manufacturing, engineering, construction or other high-risk industrial environments.
We are looking for someone who is confident, approachable and practical in their approach, with the ability to build good working relationships and promote a positive health and safety culture across projects.
The Role
As Health & Safety Advisor, you will be based on site near Inverness or Elgin, supporting the safe delivery of engineering and construction projects.
Working closely with project managers, engineers, site teams and subcontractors, you will provide practical health and safety advice and ensure that all activities are carried out safely and in line with current legislation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing day-to-day health and safety advice and guidance to site management, employees and subcontractors.
- Carrying out regular site inspections, audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
- Ensuring compliance with current health, safety and environmental legislation, company policies and industry standards.
- Reviewing and updating RAMS, safe systems of work and relevant H&S documentation.
- Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Developing and delivering toolbox talks, safety briefings, inductions and awareness training.
- Working closely with project managers and engineers to ensure health and safety considerations are included in project planning.
- Monitoring site safety performance, maintaining accurate records and preparing reports.
- Identifying areas for improvement and supporting the implementation of preventative measures.
- Promoting a positive health and safety culture and encouraging safe working practices across all site activities.
- Supporting ongoing health, safety and environmental improvement initiatives.
About You
We are keen to speak with experienced Health & Safety Advisors who are comfortable working in busy, high-risk environments and enjoy being actively involved in site operations.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous health and safety experience within processing, manufacturing, engineering, construction or a similar industrial environment.
- A NEBOSH qualification, IOSH membership or equivalent relevant qualification.
- A strong understanding of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and workplace risk assessments.
- Knowledge of occupational health and workplace safety requirements.
- Experience investigating accidents and incidents, including root cause analysis and reporting.
- The ability to deliver effective safety training, toolbox talks and site briefings.
- Experience working on complex or high-risk engineering projects would be advantageous.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with employees, subcontractors and management.
- Good organisational, analytical and report-writing skills.
- A proactive, practical approach to identifying risks and implementing improvements.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development.
We are looking for someone who enjoys being out on site, engaging with teams and finding practical solutions to safety challenges, rather than simply focusing on policies and paperwork.
